What does it take to keep one of the UK’s largest distribution centre’s safe and hygienic during a global pandemic? One distributor of books and educational resources looked to Andron for an enhanced cleaning and hygiene solution that would keep their employees and their workplace safe.
Andron currently delivers cleaning, waste management, pest control, washroom, hygiene, and window cleaning services to this distribution client at their 110-acre, 24-hour operational site. The estate compromises of two distribution centres with a combined area of 750k sq. ft. and over 400 employees.
Working in partnership with its supply chain, Andron developed an enhanced cleaning and hygiene solution that would help protect employees from the continuing coronavirus risks, mitigate outbreaks and build long-term resilience. The 4-pillar approach combines enhanced cleaning and hygiene with people, science, and technology:
Data-driven cleaning
All touch point surfaces were identified, and we analysed all visitor traffic in real-time, allowing for the creation of optimised cleaning and hygiene schedules. Data showed the areas that needed particular attention and we quickly recruited 2 additional cleaning operatives to keep up with the increased frequency of tasks required. Real-time data insights meant we knew what was needed and where.
Enhanced cleaning and disinfection
Our specialist teams, highly trained in infection control, focused on ensuring all high traffic and touchpoint areas were cleaned, sanitised, and disinfected throughout the day. We increased the frequency of cleaning in toilet and kitchen areas and used COVID-secure cleaning products to ensure surfaces remained safe for hours after cleaning. Weekly fogging services were also introduced to add an extra level of protection.
Highly visible cleaning
Our operative’s day-time presence and the increased visibility of touchpoint cleaning provided staff on-site with much-needed confidence in the safety of their workplace. Our teams are also there to support staff on-site and ensure they maintain social distancing.
Verification
Andron introduced weekly ATP testing to verify the effectiveness of the cleaning by measuring the levels of microbe’s present, and therefore the level of hygiene. The ATP test results are made available to employees, so they can see the scores and know what has happened in their area of the building.
Benefits
Our enhanced cleaning and disinfection solution, in combination with COVID-secure products, and verification from ATP testing, has significantly reduced the risk of transmission from surfaces and touch-points. Communication of test results and highly visible cleaning helps to reassure employees, ensuring they feel safe and capable of undertaking their role with confidence. Finally, we know that flexibility is key in uncertain times and therefore utilising data-driven technology allows us to continually identify any changes to building usage and adapt our cleaning resource as and when it is required. Whether it’s changing guidelines or fluctuating footfall levels, our teams have the training and support to adapt to any situation quickly.
